Thanks and thank you for your help..
An other remarkable thing I encountered was measure 3. There the bass line goes up very high and the soprano and therefore the alto go low here in this SATB score, leaving no room for the tenor.
To realize the figures for a vocal SATB score, while keeping the bass-line in tact, it is only possible to let the tenor go above the soprano, which is quite unnatural in this manner. This has to do with the fact, I think, that a normal continuo realization, is realized with 4 voices for keyboard, with on top the solo piece sung, wich is here in the soprano part.
That gave them more freedom to realize the figures, while they could let the keyboard upper voices go higher and solve it there and keep the tenor lower.
I don't know, how that would have sounded, but it would sound probably better, being an accompaniment to the solo voice. The only way to solve this in a vocal score, where I only have two degrees of freedom I consider the bass and soprano as given; fixed , instead of 3 in an keyboard realization, is to change the bass-line from Bach. Then it would no be original, so I choose for this somewhat artificial solution.
I lowered the volume of the tenor substantially, because the higher notes also tend to sound louder.

You need to see these chorales as the standard hymnes the congregation sang during the sermon, so yes they were very well known, from the standard hymn book Gesangbuch If you really want to know if Bach used the exact same arrangement for this hymn in BWV and BWV you should compare the sheet music. Different settings, almost not exactly the same melody. Originally Posted by Ariasexta.
